Is DCryptor required for 08 GMC Sierra?

0 votes
According to guide #59041, DCryptor is required for my 2008 GMC Sierra. However, according to guide #3309, DCryptor is *not* required, and I can program the EVO-ALL directly using the programming button (connection 6, programming 4). Which is it?

In guide 3309 that programming only involves the Can bus learning as the immobilizer is bypassed using the TBGM2. Basically, the TBGM2 is a chip in a box.

In guide 59041 This involves a full bypass programming not using the TBGM2.

DCryptor process is required if you are not using the TBGM2.

Thanks for your reply, but guide 3309 shows to use programming 4 option *without* the TBGM2, and programming 4 doesn't use DCryptor. The same guide shows to use programming 7 if using the TBGM2. Is programming 4 just a mistake then?

Looking at the legend it says for gmc sierra 07-13: connection 6 program 4

Also the legend notes indicate 1 & 12

1= TB-GM2 for transponder bypass. Meaning without the TB-GM2 the immobilizer system will not be bypassed and the evo will be used for convenience features only.

12= T-Harness available (optional).

So if you are NOT using a TB-GM2 you will need the DCryptor process in order to properly program the module as indicated in guide 59041.

My suggestion, follow guide 59041 and you will be good to goyes

Thanks! One other question.. is one method faster than the other in started the engine? For example, is the data bypass 1-2 slower than the antenna route because it has to communicate back and forth over the data bus? Thanks!
Its the same either way, communication has to happen in either case.
