How to trim the extra wires?

+2 votes
Wondering what other people do with the extra unused wires from the harnesses.  I've been trimming them different lengths, taping the ends, and then taping them all together.  Is there a different, possibly better way people think is better?

Thanks

I took a needle, stuck in the plug where the wire connector is and de-pinned the wires I wasn't going to use. Which left me with about 12 wires for the install, made it a whole lot easier.

De-Pinning the connector is one way, although if the wires are needed at a later date you're kinda stuck. also I have found it doesn't clip in the connector as securely as there are several wires missing so it can be kinda sloppy....

I personally trim them and leave about 2-3" of them left and tape them up nice and neatly to the wires that are still being used and make a little harness, that way if you want to use the wires for another feature at a later date like alarm or horn trigger door triggers etc they are easily attacthed to!

thats just my way of doing it....to each there own :)

Removing the wires would be the cleanest but I always wondered about transferring the unit to a different car

If you don't throw away the wires your removed, all you have to do is put them back in the plug and install into another car.smiley

De-pinning was definitely the way to go.  Thanks Bob

I am saving the wires for later just in case
