So V4.18 should work?

Does that mean my unit is defective? How long should it be before the red LED lights?

Max 30 seconds and the LED should be blinking.

4.18 will not work. you need MAX 4.06 or the latest GM firmware. The 4.18 firmware does not support the old J1850 data-bus.
