compustar drone datalink to evo all 2007 dodge ram diesel

+1 vote
Can I hook the compustar drone directly to the evo all without having the full remote start system? Ex. Using the drone to control the evo all stand alone starting feature, as well as lock/unlock. I have the evo-all, chr5, and data link updater 2.

Hi Nikb47,

Update the EVO-ALL to the latest firmware for your vehicle, then go in the EVO-Option Menu and turn on option 21.2 AP/OFA Datalink. Leave the drone datalink protocol to ADS (AP/OFA datalink)

Just to re clarify... I do not need anything else? Just the drone dr -3100 and the evo-all and change those settings and the drone will control the evo-all stand alone starting? do I need to hold the program button on the evo-all or any other special procedure?
The EVO-ALL can be used as a standalone remote starter in this vehicle, so adding a drone to control it is not a problem. There is no special procedure for the EVO-ALL besides for the actual in vehicle programming.

I would recommend updating the EVO-ALL to the latest firmware for Dodge prior to programming the EVO to the vehicle. Turn the required options on in the EVO, and test everything.
Perfect!  I will give it a shot today.  Thank you very much for your time and knowledge.
No propblem! Just call tech support if nothing seems to work while you are in the vehicle.

Remember that the Drone does need activation prior to use. This is done through the Compustar website. I would recommend to go that or atleast check out and FAQs they may have if you haven't already done so.
I called tech support yesterday and they werent much help. The guy just simply said "you can't plug the drone directly to evo all you need to add a remote start system to control the drone."

I will add that I'm going to have to modify the drone harness a little. I will have to flip the tx and rx wires and change the connector from male to female. I will update when I'm finished.

Since the EVO can do stand alone remote starter on this vehicle, you do not need to add an aftermarket remote starter.  Was it the Fortin tech support or Compustar tech support that told you that you needed to add a remote starter?

I personally did this on one of our on road techs vehicles when testing the drone and the evo. From the Drones datalink connector, you should have a yellow and white wire (along with red and black). The EVO came with a datalink connector, you will want to connect the wires as such on the EVOs datalink connector.

  • Red to Red  (also connected to a 12v source)
  • Black to Black  (also connected to a ground
  • White to White
  • Yellow to Blue

Some other wiring tips and programming Drone options i had to do:

  • The Drones ignition input should be to the vehicles ignition wire
  • The (-)ground-while-running not connected
  • Drone programming function 1-06 set to Option 3
  • Drone programming function 1-08 set to Option 2
  • Drone programming function 2-06 set to Option 1

It was fortin tech support that I talked to.

On my drone harness it has the small male plug, on the opposite end of where it plugs into the drone, that has red black blue and white wires. There are no other wires coming out of the large plug. Perhaps i need to add some? Im assuming connecting these wires to the corresponding wires of the evo data link is what I need to do.

How do you change the settings on the drone? All it came with was the module and harness.
was their no installation guide that came with the Drone? You will need to get one from the Compustar website or just do a google search with the model of the Drone.
Were you using the dr3100 drone? All that came with it was the harness and instructions for activation.
Was the dr-2000.
Ok well im experimenting.  I'll update later today. Thank you for your time Robert.
I am thinking of doing the same on my 13 Chevy cruze, was wondering if you were able to install the drone with your evo-all?
New drone systems are currently not supported through datalink. We are actually looking into this these next few weeks to see if we can release an update for Drone compatibility in the future.

At the moment, the only models that are datalink compatible would be the SmartStart, Autoconnect, and Text2Car.
