Firmware Issue??

+1 vote
I'm having 2 issues(2011 Camaro)

1. My Evo All came preloaded with Firmware version 4.18, i have it connected to my push start unit...my push starts appears to work fine but whenever i turn my car off the doors lock after about 2-3 seconds arming my factory alarm, I have ignition controlled door locks deactivated on my push start and this still happens  so im assuming the Evo All is causing this to happen?? I have options 1-11 turned on, everything else 12-23 is off. my camaro from what i can find doesn't have an option to lock the car when its turned off.

2. I tried upgrading to the recommended firmware(70.10) hoping the locking after shutdown issue would be resolved but after doing this my push start completely stops working on this firmware, if i go back down to 4.18 it works correctly. i reprogram the unit but still no go, lock and unlock functions still work just not my push button.

Any Ideas?

Thanks for your help

Hello,

By factory, the vehicle will relock the doors after 30seconds of doing unlock if no doors were opened. In the 4.18 firmware we had to implement the same thing in order to propery arm-disarm the factory alarm. With the 70.10 though, we removed that since engineering found a different way.

2. There is no reason 70.10 did not work with your push system. Since I'm assuming you have a flash-link Updator, reflash to 70.10 and after do a master reset on the eVO then reprogram the unit.

Master reset procedure:

  1. Hold down programming button while plugging in datalink connector.
  2. Let go of button when LED is RED.
  3. Push and hold button again until all three LEDs start to alternate.
  4. Disconnect unit, she is now reset.

OK I will do what you suggested and post back the results...one thing though whenever I flash an update it pops up saying it was successful and the lights on the evo all and updater are blinking but i t won't let me do anything inside of the flash manager without first disconnecting and reconnecting the units... Is this normal?
Yes that`s normal. You must disconnect the EVO and then reconnect it after flashing any firmware into it.
ok I did as you suggested, updated to 70.10, master reset, reprogrammed and still no go...i went back to 4.18 and it works...sooo im not sure if its camaro specific or something you may want to have development look into but im ok with being on 4.18 the only outstanding issue is with my door locks, its not that my doors are relocking after 30 seconds its lets say im driving and I park the car and shut it down my doors will lock themselves in about 2 seconds soo im having to hit my unlock button to get out of the car or open the door very quickly lol

2. Another thing i noticed is that when i start my car my doors will lock themselves in about 2 seconds...my car doesn't do this when I use the factory key and i have ignition controlled turned off on my push start soo i guess this is something the evo is doing also??

The EVO does not do ignition controlled door locks.

I'd be curious to know what happens if the purple and purple/white wires of the EVO are not connected anywhere, and also what the LEDs on the EVO do when the car is off, started normally, and remote starter.

I disconnected the purple and purple/white wires....i hit the push button, the red LED on evo comes on, the car starts, the yellow LED comes on, then the blue light flickers and the doors lock, i can go into drive and then back into park and my doors unlock(which is what my camaro does by default) I hit the push button and the car shuts down, all LEDs go off and in 2 seconds the blue light flickers and the doors lock. Thanks for all your help and quick response on this also.
ive done some more troubleshooting on this to try and narrow down the issue...i was trying some of the GM specific firmwares and found out that 70.03 works with my system but everything above that doesn't work for me, so maybe something was removed from those updates...... one issue that did get resolved from me going from 4.18 to 70.03 is that when i start my car now it doesn't initially lock anymore, it now locks when i take my car out of park which is what it normally does soo we are good with that part but upon shutdown the car is still locking after two seconds...sooo looks like to me the Evo does some sort of ignition/start up/shutdown door control, but the startup locking was fixed on firmware 70.03 in my case. Thanks

This is good. Thank -you. The only thing, That red LED should be off when driving the car. If it's still on while driving, this is not how the EVO was intended to work. This would mean that the entire time that you're driving, the vehicle is basically running off the EVO.  So basically, what i feel is happening, is that the Push system is keeping the EVO activated the entire time. The EVO, then relocks the door after that ground-when-running is removed to re-arm the factory alarm.

There's a Beta out, firmware 0.44 that you will want to try. Master reset the EVO and reprogram it and give us some news. I didn't mention it before, but here is the master reset procedure: Also, do not change any options.

  1. Hold down programming button while plugging in datalink connector.
  2. Let go of button when LED is RED.
  3. Push and hold button again until all three LEDs start to alternate.
  4. Disconnect unit, she is now reset.

I hit the push button and the car shuts down, all LEDs go off and in 2 seconds the blue light flickers and the doors lock.

This is what i was looking for. The blue LED flickers when the EVO receives any type of command and when it does anything data-ish.

I have more questions:

  1. What is the 12 digit service number written on the back of the EVO?
  2. What model addon push to start system are you installing?
  3. Where is the Ground-when-Running (dark blue wire) of the EVO connected?

Thanks for all your help and quick response on this also.

No problem, I'm gone for the day though but will be back tomorrow to see how things are working out.

Service Number is 001A06 261876

I installed a SPY LA5 Push Start System

Ok interesting, i thought the Red LED would be on the whole time, well the GWR wire of the EVO is connected to the Transponder bypass wire of my Spy LA5 unit, which i thought would supply ground the entire time my push unit is on which would keep the red LED on.

I will try the beta firmware out and let cha know the results!! Thanks

well i think i have semi-good news lol....I tried 0.44 Firmware and that firmware doesn't work with my setup either :-( sooo i went back to 70.03 but my SPY unit also has a seperate wire that I can program to act as a windows roll up wire or transponder wire....so i programmed that wire as the transponder bypass and connected it to the GWR wire of my evo and now everything works as intended!! the red LED blinks on the Evo the car starts and the only LED on is the yellow...i shut it down and there is no more door lock activity. Thanks so much Robert for all the info!! I don't know why none of the higher firmwares don't work for me but im glad this has all worked itself out!!
Excellent! Glad you have it figured out.
Hey Robert

Unfortunately im starting to have intermittent issues with starting...most of the time my car will start but like today i would hit my button i will hear clicking from the module as usually but no start...sometimes i can try a couple more times and then it will start...other times i will just have to use my key...and when i get to my destination and try the push button again it will work. im pretty sure none of my connections are loose, sometimes after starting my immobilizer light on my cluster will still be lit, my manual stated this is usually caused by using a key that isn't programmed..could this be a timing issue between the two units communicating? . it still sort of concerns me i cannot use none of the 70.xx firmwares with my setup other than 70.03. maybe i can try go back to firmware 4.18 and see if this problem reoccurs.....Do you have any thoughts?? Thanks
That key light is turning most likely because the EVO is not being activated as it should be. When starting the car with the addon push system, i beliwve that the EVO should be getting activated at the same time. Thus, you should see the RED LED on the EVO turn On.

We do not test the EVO-ALL or any products with addon push to start systems.

Tpyically, some vehicles would need to see transponder code only to start, while others would require it to be always present in the vehicle. The EVO-ALL is built as a bypass piece for remote starters and is meant to offer transponder code while the vehicle is remote started until the owner gets in  the vehicle; the owners key takes over transpnder bypass after.

I would recommend you contact the manufacturer of the push start system to see if they have seen previous problems like this before, and if they have solutions for you. Also, I'd recommend maybe bringing the system to a vehicle accessory installation shop near you. Those guys do this type of stuff on a daily basis and would most likely be able to resolve any problems.
i ended up unhooking a start sensing wire from my push start unit that i had connected to the tachometer wire of the evo, it seems that wasnt what it was for soo after doing that all the other firmwares that didnt work are now working...so im currently trying out the beta 6.0.44 that you suggesed....jus curious do you have details of what "GM Start Enhancement" of this firmware do? Thanks
It was meant for the start signal on the green/red wire of the EVO on some GMs when installing remote starters.
