Evo-One not starting 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T manual transmission and PTS

I have a 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T that has a manual transmission and push-to-start. I purchased the EVO-ONE a while back and when I installed it I could never get it to function correctly. Recently, I went back to check all of the connections listed in the instructions and I am getting 11-12v with the car on, but not started for all the accessory connections. The Evo-One does power on because the yellow light turns on the module and stays steady while the car is running. I have all the wires connected as displayed in the model specific instruction, but I do not have the white, orange, pink, and yellow wires from the E connector wired to anything. I would assume this is where the issue is. They're much thicker wires so I'm assuming I will not be splicing them into the same harness for ignition, accessory, etc. that the A connector is using.

 

When plugging in the module I have been holding the button until ONLY the blue LED is on and then releasing and plugging in all remaining connectors. Then I push the start twice, without starting the car, and it flashes indicating that programming is complete. The only time after programming the blue LED flashes is when I use the OEM fob to unlock the car. Is does not flash when I lock it or when I open the trunk. 

 

I understand that a manual has a "ready-mode" and I've tried it countless times with no sucess and I can't imagine it's that difficult to do. Does the OEM remote need to be programmed to work correctly with the Evo-One? I have also heard directly that a Hyundai Dealer must program the information of the immobilizer specific to the vehicle in order for this to work. All the PTS Genesis Coupes have immobilizers on them.

 

Other than the unlock press on the OEM fob, none of the LEDs illuminate other than the yellow when the car is running.

 

The diodes that go in to the wires for the push button, should they be wired in with the cathode (side with the stripe) facing the button or away from the button?

 

EDIT 11/10/2015: The production date of the car is May 2009 if it makes a difference.

Hi Adam,

 

I would start off by going to Function 20 and setting it to 20.6 (Tach Data-Link only) then

1.test the installation by sitting in the car with all the doors closed,

2. start the vehicle normally,

3. cycle the hand brake down then up, release the brake pedal, ( you have enabled automatic activation function 33.2) the Evo unit should "click" on (red led on)

4.at this point exit the vehicle with all the keys,

5.the vehicle should shut down after the door is closed, if not, after step 3, push the push to start button once and see if the vehicle shuts down only after you exit and close the door.

 

If the above steps do not work, call tech support 1-877-336-7797 when you have time to work on the vehicle and we can go through one more test which is done better if the tech agent is live on the phone with you since there are some steps that need to be verified for safety before proceeding.

I will try this later today when I am at home with my car. Should I change Function 31 to 31.1? or is there a better option?

 

are you able to see the bypass settings I am using? If so, is there any issue with those settings?

I updated function 20 to 20.6 and tried to follow your instructions as best as possible. All the times I tried cycling the hand brake the red LED never turned on. I decided to continue with the directions. When I get out of the car the "key out" dash light flashes since the key is not within the proximity that it needs. Once the door is shut the long beep sounds, indicating the key is out of the car. With the door closed, reaching in through the window I could press the push-to-start button and turn the car off. If I sat inside the car and pressed it, the car would also turn off.

 

I am only trying to use the OEM remote for starting, do I need a different module or an additional RF kit? In the past I was told that I needed one and have the REVO-1, but when I tried that in the past I did not have any success either.

 

Below are my bypass settings:

76.22 firmware
 
A1 - A11 is on
B1 is on
C1 is on
D2 is off
D3 is on
D4 is off
D5 and D6 are on
 
If the next steps are calling tech support I can do that, but will I need my multimeter and access to all the wires to check readings of the connections?

Yes. We may end up asking at some point to test wires. I would also make sure to be around a computer with the Flash-Link because myself I like having people reset everything and start from scratch.

Did you follow connection 2 in guide number 29021? 4cyl. manual trans installation. White orange pink and yellow are unused on this instalation. Did you cut the yellow loop on the back of the evo one module? The diodes should have the bands facing the connector as to not feed back Voltage to the evo one. Youve enable the 3x lock feature and oem remote monitoring which is good. But you should be getting all the LED in sequence when programming not just the blue led. Are you holding the program button?

I did follow the connection 2 in the guide 29021 exactly as it is shown. When I said I get the blue LED I meant only when the car is running. The LEDs do cycle when I am holding the button and I insert the 6-pin main connector, but I release the button when only the blue LED is lit. Once I finish inserting the other connectors I push the button twice and after it flashes rapidly I push the button again.

 

I did not cut the loop since I have a manual transmission.
When working on it tonight, I read the instructions 3 more times in Guide #29021 and it states to specifically to release the button when ONLY the blue LED is on. I then proceeded to plug in the remaining connectors. Once they're all plugged in I press the push-to-start button. The blue LED begins to flash quickly and I let it flash for a few minutes to see if there was a part of the programming that would turn on other LEDs which it did not. Then I pressed the button 1 more time to turn the car off.

 

Nothing has changed yet with the function of the device.
If the red led never comes on when you pull the handbrake up and push on the remote, then technically the remote starter never turned on, so that would explain all your symptoms,

 

The remote starter needs these inputs to go into reservation mode,

1. Ignition on the yellow wire

2. Tach signal through the CAN-BUS wires

3. Handbrake signal cycling via data when handbrake is lowered then engaged.

4. On your current setup, the brake signal also through Can to automatically enable your reservation mode.

5. Door trigger through can to tell the vehicle you have exited the car.

 

 

Manually giving ground to the "analog"  handbrake wire (Brown/White in the 20 pin connector) and pulsing 12v positive to the analog brake wire (black in the 20 pin connector should put the remote starter in ready mode, then pulse the analog door pin wire to ground (Pink/Black) vehicle should shut down.
Just to verify, there are no issues with my settings for the bypass side or remote-start side for programming correct?

 

All of the above options appear to be all controlled through the Can-BUS and connected via the guide #29021. Are you telling me to connecting the hand brake wire (brown/white wire), the 12v positive (black wire), and the door pin wire (pink/black) to each of those respective sources to the wiring harness in the car?

 

The pink/black wire in the 20-pin harness is labeled as "Hood" (A15) but is connected to the driver door pin. Is this a mistake? I just noticed it now, the lt. blue/black wire (A10) is shown wired to the hood pin. It appears as though in the instruction those 2 were flipped. Could this be the issue? (I am not in front of my car so I'm assuming I may have those flipped. I will check later today)

 

If the above isn't the solution, I will try connecting the Brown/White (A14) to ground and the Black (A11) to the hand brake wire in the car if I understood what you meant correctly.

Those are definitaly flipped in the guide, you will want to change them. For now, these are not required to remote start or to enable the reservation mode so I would suggest not connecting them for now. Once disconnected, just try the reservation mode.

I believe what he meant by this was so that you could manually replicating those signals. As techs, we do this to replicate a signal and see where an issue can be coming from. You don't need to physically connect to the car. Jumpers to ground will do the trick.

So, since your car is manual transmission, the reservation mode will be looking for:

  • hand brake status (hand brake goes from OFF to ON)
  • tach status (tach On)
  • door status (doors have to be closed)
  • hood status (hood has to be closed) 
  • ignition (ignition On).

If any of those signals are not functioning, the reservation mode will not work.

 

Properly activating reservation mode with option 33.2 enabled requires that.

  • All doors and hood must be closed
  • Engine has to be running and in Neutral
  • Foot must be on brake
  • Hand brake must go from OFF state to ON. If it was already ON, then you must turn it OFF, wait 3 seconds, then turn it ON.
  • Release Foot brake
